Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has convened an emergency meeting of the State Security Council to review recent security challenges and strengthen efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the State.
The meeting, which held on Wednesday at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, brought together the Deputy Governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.
The gathering focused on developing stronger measures to guarantee sustainable peace, improve security across communities and create an environment conducive to economic growth and investment.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, said deliberations “focused extensively on emerging security threats, recent incidents recorded in some communities, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations, inter-agency coordination, and strategies for safeguarding lives, property and economic activities across Plateau State.”
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ayodeji Faniyan, said the meeting reflected Governor Mutfwang’s continued commitment to monitoring developments and responding to security threats across the State.
He explained that the governor regularly brings together security chiefs to assess the situation and identify areas requiring greater intervention.
“His Excellency Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is the Chief Security Officer of the State, and once in a while, we review the security situation. We assess the security situation in order to take steps to improve on what we already have,” Faniyan said.
The police commissioner specifically addressed the recent security incident in Mangu, describing it as unfortunate and saying the latest meeting was partly aimed at ensuring that similar attacks are prevented in the future.
“The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred. That is part of why His Excellency called this meeting so that such must not happen again,” CP Faniyan said.
Faniyan disclosed that security agencies had already made arrests in connection with some of the major attacks recorded in Plateau State within the last month, while efforts were continuing to identify and apprehend other suspects.
According to him, the investigations are being carried out jointly with other security agencies and relevant authorities beyond the state, with technology also being deployed to analyse intelligence and track those responsible.
“We have some arrests; investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are collaborating with all the other agencies up to the national level. We are still going after some suspects, and we are doing a lot of technological analysis.”
The commissioner assured residents that security agencies had received clear directives from Governor Mutfwang and would intensify collaboration to prevent further attacks, tackle criminal activities and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
The Security Council meeting forms part of the Mutfwang administration’s broader efforts to consolidate peace and stability across Plateau State, with the government maintaining that lasting security is essential to the growth of investment, tourism, agriculture, commerce and other sectors.
The administration reaffirmed its resolve to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous Plateau State where residents and investors can live, work and conduct their activities with confidence.
