Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Halima Ibrahim and recovered AK-47 rifle, two magazines and other items during an operation in Plateau State, while a separate operation in Edo State led to the rescue of a kidnapped man.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE, working with vigilantes and local hunters, raided Kisayi and Dogon Daji settlements in Bassa LGA following the abduction of Dr. Abraham Owoicho on August 19.
A 30-year-old woman, Halima Ibrahim, was arrested while allegedly fleeing with two AK-47 magazines. A search of her residence reportedly uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated revolver, a military jungle hat and three mobile phones.
Troops working with the Edo State Security Corps ambushed suspected kidnappers along the Afawosa–Iyora Road in Etsako West LGA. The kidnappers reportedly abandoned their victim, 35-year-old Mohammed Oboarekpe, after troops engaged them.
The Nigerian Army says it will sustain intelligence-led operations to dismantle kidnapping and arms-trafficking networks and urges the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
