World Cup: Drake loses $1.5m bet on Argentina vs Spain final clash

Canadian rapper, Drake, lost a $1.5 million bet after Argentina were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper backed defending champions Argentina to beat Spain in Sunday’s final.

He placed the bet through betting platform, Stake, with a possible payout of more than $5.1 million if Argentina had won in normal time.

Instead, the match finished 0-0 after 90 minutes before Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in extra time to give Spain their second FIFA World Cup title and hand Drake another betting loss.

The result has once again brought back talk about the so-called “Drake curse,” an internet theory that teams or athletes supported by the rapper often go on to lose. Although there is no proof that the theory is true, it often trends online whenever Drake places a major sports bet.

Drake has become known for placing large bets on football, basketball, boxing, mixed martial arts and American football.

His latest World Cup loss adds to a number of high-profile betting defeats. Earlier this year, he reportedly lost $1 million after backing Conor McGregor to beat Max Holloway at UFC 329.

He also lost $1 million after backing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX and another bet after supporting Arsenal in the 2026 UEFA Champions League final.

He has also lost bets on Mike Tyson, Tyson Fury, Israel Adesanya, and Argentina to beat France within 90 minutes in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.

Despite those losses, Drake has also won several major bets. He reportedly won more than $2 million after backing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII and earned another multimillion-dollar payout after Israel Adesanya defeated Alex Pereira in their UFC rematch.

His sports bets have attracted so much attention that fans created TheDrakeCurse.com, a website that tracks his betting history and predictions.

Spain’s victory over Argentina secured the country’s second FIFA World Cup title and added another multimillion-dollar loss to Drake’s growing betting record.
