Enugu Rangers Int’l crowned NPFL champions for record 9th time

Rangers International F.C have etched their name further into Nigerian football history after defeating Ikorodu City F.C 2-1 to claim a record-equaling 9th Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

Captain, Chidiebere Nwobodo, scored once in each half to hand the Flying Antelopes a crucial victory and secure the championship ahead of closest challengers Rivers United F.C.

The home side pulled one back in the 58th minute through substitute Moses Ali after Rangers goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh failed to properly deal with a long-range effort.

Rangers finished the campaign top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, just one point ahead of Rivers United, who ended their season with a 3-0 victory over Katsina United F.C.

The triumph marks Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s second league title with the Enugu-based club and sees Rangers equal the all-time NPFL championship record held by regional rivals Enyimba F.C.

Following their title success, Rangers will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League alongside runners-up Rivers United.
