Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have busted a “baby factory” at World Bank axis, in Owerri West Council Area of Imo State, arresting a 52-year-old woman, Tochukwu Ogaranya.
They also rescued five new born babies who are barely one-two months old and 5 pregnant teenagers found at the facility.
The officers equally arrested a 47 old Godwin Nnamdi, a cousin to the owner of the orphanage home, who happens to be his business partner.
Parading the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters, Owerri, the Commandant of NSCDC, Basil Igwebueze said that on 14th March, 2026 one of his officers stumbled into an incident of pregnant teenager running away from the baby factory orphanage home at World Bank axis in Owerri West Council Area of Imo State.
With such intelligent information, Commandant Igwebueze said that officers of the command immediately moved into action at the orphanage home and arrested the owner of the orphanage and rescued both the 4 pregnant teenage girls including the 5 new born babies.
The Commandant, who described it as a heinous crime condoned in the society, appealed to the residents of Imo State and neighbours to say something when they see something.
He said: ”If the residents of the State had not assisted us with the necessary information, the command would not have uncovered such a criminal act.
He condemned the act of bribe by Godwin Nnamdi to bribe the officers of the Command to cover the crime
NSCDC boss advised the people of Imo State to arise to the situation by urgently reporting to the security agencies about crimes in the state for prompt action.
In an interview with the owner of the ophanage home, Mrs. Tochi Ogaranya, she claimed that her ophanage home is a certified one and that she has a certificate backing her.
She recalled how the teenager – Chiamaka – came into the orphanage with pregnancy after she ran away from the man who impregnated her at Ngwa in Abia State.
She said when the incident of somebody impregnating Chiamaka was disclosed to her, she made effort to reach out to the Police who even promised to travel with the lady to Abia State to arrest the man responsible.
She said she was surprised when her workers called to inform her that Chiamaka had jumped out of the fence and ran away before she was caught by the vigilante in the area.
When interviewed, one of the suspects from Ikeduru Council Area of Imo State, said that she was introduced to the orphanage by someone he does not know his identity for the purpose of delivering her baby and saying him/her.
She said when she felt that she could no longer cope with the situation, she scaled the fence and ran away for her dear life.
