Imo residents bemoan high transport fares amid petrol price hike

Residents of Owerri, the capital of Imo State, have bemoaned the astronomical increase in the price of petrol, now selling at N1,300 per litre.

A bus driver in Owerri said he bought a litre of fuel at N1,300, which, according to him, has had adverse effect on his business.

He said that after buying fuel at such a high cost, he finds it difficult to make profit.

Meanwhile, some commercial bus drivers in Owerri have threatened to abandon the road because they are unable to break even in the business as they did before.

One of the commercial bus drivers, Emeka Agu, said he cannot continue the business, lamenting that it is no longer profitable

Reports said the situation has also reflected on the cost of food items across markets.

Meanwhile, some filling stations in Owerri have temporarily closed their businesses for reasons best known to them.

A visit to Frank Gilly filling station situated along the Owerri–Aba Expressway showed that the entire premises was virtually empty, as there was no business of buying and selling of fuel.

At CornOil filling station on Aba Road, the place was also empty, and devoid of any business activities.
