- Thank you sir, PPRO responds
A former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has commended the Nigerian Police for their swift action in apprehending suspects involved in the murder of a Kano housewife and her six children.
The police, on Sunday afternoon, confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and six others.
The incident occurred at Dorayi Chiranchi quarters and Tudun Yola of Gwale Local Government Area (LGA).
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ibrahim Bakori, said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation conducted between 10:00 pm on Saturday, and 4:00 am on Sunday.
Bakori explained that the alleged leader of the syndicate, a relative of the deceased, confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in other violent attacks, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters.
The operation was conducted on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and coordinated by the Commissioner of Police in Kano State.
According to CP Bakori, items recovered from the suspects included blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, cash allegedly taken from the scene, and other weapons. He added that investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
He commended the officers involved in the operation, and thanked members of the public for their support and cooperation, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety.
In a statement on Sunday, Obi described the tragic incident as “a deep sorrow in our hearts as a nation” and urged law enforcement agencies to maintain the same efficiency in tackling other criminal activities, including kidnapping and banditry.
“If we continue to see such decisive actions from our law enforcement agencies, we will undoubtedly witness a significant decline in crime within our communities,” Obi said.
Responding to Obi’s commendation, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), tweeted:
“Thank you, sir, for the commendation. We confirm to you that we are not relenting in our fight against crime and criminality. That much IGP Kayode Egbetokun assures.”
