Fake Kiss condoms in circulation, NAFDAC warns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised the alarm over the circulation of counterfeit Kiss condoms in different parts of Nigeria.

The alert followed reports from DKT International Nigeria – the company that markets the brand – after fake versions were discovered in major markets and cities.

According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit products have been spotted in places such as Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair Market, Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu.

The agency warned that using fake condoms pose serious health risks, as they may not offer proper protection against sexually transmitted infections or unintended pregnancy.

NAFDAC explained that there are clear differences between the genuine Kiss condoms and the fake types.

Original packs usually include clear instructions, manufacturer details, and verified addresses.

The counterfeit versions often have darker packaging, missing information, incorrect addresses and poor print quality.

Even the condoms themselves show differences, with the fake ones appearing smaller, thinner and with less lubrication compared to the approved product.

The agency urged Nigerians to be cautious, check labels carefully before buying, and report any suspicious products to NAFDAC offices nationwide.

It reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to trace and remove the fake condoms from circulation, while also working with security agencies to identify those responsible.
