Solar panels ignite fire in Abuja residential flats

A fire outbreak at Number 13 Nelson Mandela Street in the Asokoro area of the nation’s capital, Abuja, has gutted four out of five blocks of three-bedroom flats.

Residents of the building noticed a fire on the solar panels mounted on the roof before it escalated into an inferno.

According to the Head of the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD) Search and Rescue Team, Mr. Monday Addie, the incident was reported at about 1pm on Saturday.

No life was lost in the incident. However, the four affected flats were completely burnt down.

Furniture, clothing, food items and other personal effects were destroyed by the fire.

The affected building is said to belong to a former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Yerima.

At the time of filing this report, personnel of FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency and the FCT Police Command were working hard to put out the blaze.
