Immigration C-G declares nationwide security alert on Nigeria’s border posts

  • After deadly attack on Kebbi checkpoint

The Comptroller-General (C-G) of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, has declared a nationwide red alert across all NIS border formations following the deadly attack on the Bakin Ruwa checkpoint under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Kebbi State.

CGI Nandap, who visited the attacked checkpoint on Thursday, conducted an on-the-spot assessment to evaluate the extent of damage, identify operational gaps and strengthen immediate security responses. The violent assault by unidentified armed men claimed the lives of three gallant NIS officers and destroyed critical operational assets.

During the assessment tour, the CGI interacted with personnel on duty and received a comprehensive briefing on the circumstances surrounding the attack. She assured officers of the Service’s firm commitment to restoring operational stability along the Tuga axis and preventing further security breaches.

The visit came a day after a series of strategic engagements held on December 3 with key authorities in Kebbi State, including the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, members of the State Executive Council, and the Emir of Gwandu, His Royal Highness Maj.-Gen. (Dr.) Muhammed Ilyasu Bashir (rtd).

Discussions centred on reinforcing coordinated countermeasures, enhancing intelligence sharing and improving tactical deployments across the region.

CGI Nandap extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the three fallen officers, describing them as courageous patriots who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s borders. She assured the families of the Service’s unwavering support and directed the immediate strengthening of welfare and psychological support systems for officers deployed in high-risk formations.

She further stressed that the nationwide red alert mandates all border posts to intensify surveillance, heighten vigilance and reinforce rapid-response strategies to counter emerging threats and safeguard national security.
