Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested a medical doctor who allegedly carries pharmaceutical drugs to kidnappers for their healthcare needs.
Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State governor, confirmed on Friday that the arrested doctor allegedly transports drugs from Sokoto State to where kidnappers are hiding in some parts of Kwara State.
Ajakaye said the doctor was arrested in Jebba community, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, following intelligence reports about the activities of the kidnappers and their couriers.
Reports said that the criminal gangs appeared desperate for medical care due to gunshot wounds they sustained in encounters with security forces, which earlier launched an onslaught against the hoodlums in recent times.
Thus, security personnel advised concerned authorities to put up improved security measures in health facilities, especially those located in remote communitiess, “which the kidnappers may target”.
Ajakaye’s statement read: “The Department of State Service has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State.
“The doctor was intercepted in Jebba area following intelligence reports about the activities of the kidnappers and their couriers.
“The secret service says the criminal gangs appear desperate for medical care following gunshot wounds sustained in encounters with security forces.
“So, we are advising improved security measures in health facilities in thickly forested areas, which the kidnappers may target,” according to a security official.
