Immigration confirms death of 3 officers in Kebbi fresh terrorist attack

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the death of three of its officers who were killed by gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa armed group when they attacked a checkpoint in the Bakin Ruwa community of Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The armed group is said to have attacked the checkpoint on Thursday night, killing three NIS officers, set ablaze the patrol vehicle and destroyed the shelter in the area during the attack.

According to a report, an officer who did not want his name mentioned, told journalists on Saturday in Birnin-Kebbi, the State capital.

“Last night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community of Bagudo LGA in Kebbi State.

“They killed three NIS officers, set a patrol vehicle ablaze, and destroyed the shelter in the area during the attack,” the source said.

Confirming the development, Public Relations Officer of NIS, Akinsola Sheriff Akinlabi, condemned the attack and killing of three officers of the Service during the attack.

He said it is that the Service has lost the gallant officers in line of their lawful duties, revealing that the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has commiserated with the families of the deceased personnel.

“It is sad and unfortunate that we lost these gallant men of the Service. The CGI, the entire officers and men of the Service commiserate with the families of these personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of their lawful duties,” Akinlabi stated.

The incident happened just a week after gunmen attacked Government Ssecondary School in Maga community, where about 25 schoolgirls girls were abducted and the Vice Principal killed.
