IGP withdraws over 11,000 police orderlies from VIPs after Tinubu’s directive

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed that the police authorities have so far withdrawn about 11,566 personnel previously assigned to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) as orderlies.

President Bola Tinubu had ordered the immediate withdrawal of officers previously assigned to VIPs for personal security across the country.

Tinubu gave the order following the spate of killings, mass abductions and other criminal activities of assailants.

It peaked with the mass abduction of students in Kebbi and Niger states, which attracted nationwide outrage.

Speaking at an ongoing meeting with senior police officers in Abuja on Thursday, the IGP noted that the presidential order had given him the mandate to fully implement the directive without interference.

According to him, no VIP will question the recall of their security personnel since the instruction came directly from the President.

The police boss urged officers to remain professional and committed to securing the nation, stressing the need for round-the-clock efforts to prevent criminal activities across the country.
