Bayelsa State, on Wednesday, made history as the State-owned aircraft landed at the International Airport in Yenagoa, from Abuja, marking its inaugural commercial flight.
Reports said the State acquired two new aircraft for commercial flight operations.
Governor Douye Diri, who disclosed this on his X handle, said he was joined on the maiden flight by Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State Petroleum (Oil); Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director, NDDC, members of the National Assembly from the State, members of the State House of Assembly, elder statesmen, and other top government officials.
Diri said the State is intentional about the economic development of the State and a daily flight operation to enhance movement into and out of Yenagoa, the state capital will now be sustained.
“At the brief ceremony this morning and following a careful consultation in the full glare of key leaders and other citizens, it was unanimous that the aircraft is to be run under a Bayelsa name, details of which would be worked out by the relevant agencies.
“Between the name ‘Air Bayelsa’ or ‘Bayelsa Air,’ the aircraft would be managed and operated by Pioneer Airlines owned by Henry Ungbuku, our son, a tested aviation expert,” Diri added.
