Alleged genocide: Christians also kill Fulani herdsmen, rustle their cows, Gumi claims

Fiery Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stirred another controversy following his declaration that Christians are also involved in the killing of Fulani herdsmen.

The Kaduna State-based cleric, who made the assertion in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, insisted that there is no Christian genocide in any part of Nigeria, adding that the narratives that herdsmen are killing Christians are false because Christians also attack and kill in their communities and also steal their cows.

Gumi, noted for his unrepentant defence of bandits and killer herdsmen, said he has traveled to several states in the country, but has not witnessed the alleged Christian genocide.

“The Christians at ‘fault lines’ in war with herdsmen, do also attack and counterattack. They kill and they are also killed,” he wrote.

“We regret all loss of lives. Don’t talk of Tafawa Balewa, Yalwan Shandam, Kafanchan, Zangon Kataf, Kaduna crises, etc.

“There is no Christian genocide anywhere in Nigeria. I was in Kano, Lagos and Ibadan in the last two days. Christians are going about their business. They are in power, economy and security outfits,” he added.

He, however, warned against any foreign intervention to combat insecurity in the country, believing that Nigeria has what it takes to tackle insecurity which include educating, developing and protecting all Nigerians including the Fulani herdsmen.

“The only option left is to utilise our national resources equitably to educate, develop and protect all Nigerians, herdsmen included. Any foreign military intervention would only worsen the precarious situation, as nobody can control these outlawed groups on both sides.”
