The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned Nigerians to be wary of fraudsters sending phone messages and subsequently calling, and offering to help the subscribers “upgrade” their SIM cards for 4G to 5G.
Explaining the latest modus of the scam, the anti-graft agency explained the anti-graft agency said an OTP would be sent to a subscriber who opts to have their mobile SIM card “upgraded to 5G” by the scammers, adding that the subscriber would then be asked to provide the code, which the defrauders will eventual use to defraud the innocent subscriber.
“PLEASE, DO NOT provide the OTP sent to you,” the Commission warned.
“If you tell them the OTP number sent by them, they will transfer all the money in your Bank Account to their own account”.
The EFCC urged Nigerians to ensure that they do not engage strangers who asks to help them upgrade from 4G to 5G, neither should they disclose, if any person asks for an OTP.
