The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for completing admissions into public universities to November 17, 2025.
The extension was announced by JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, through a statement issued on Sunday.
The deadline, initially set for October 31, 2025, was agreed during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
According to JAMB, the new date became necessary due to critical developments that disrupted the earlier timeline. The board cited an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and the inclusion of newly accredited programmes as major factors behind the extension.
The board revealed that a court order had previously stalled aspects of the 2025/2026 admission process, and the directive was only lifted on October 28, 2025. Additionally, the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently approved 229 new programmes for 37 universities, with admissions into those programmes commencing only recently.
To ensure fairness and provide universities adequate time to process all eligible candidates, JAMB said the new deadline is final. The board also commended institutions that had worked diligently to meet the initial schedule.
This development follows a similar extension in September, when JAMB granted more time for universities to submit Post-UTME results for underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, ensuring they could be considered before the admission process closed.
