2023: Tinubu parleys APC govs hours after Osinbajo declared to run for President

As the political dynamics continues to change, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has met with governors serving under the party’s banner.

The meeting, which began at 10 am on Monday, took place at the Kebbi House on Plot 70, Kur Mohammed Way, off Ahmadu Bello Way, Central Business District, Abuja.

Head of Media for Tinubu Support Group, Mr. Tosin Adeyanju, reportedly confirmed the meeting.

It came a few hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo officially declared interest in the 2023 Presidency , also on the platform of the APC.

Osinbajo declared his ambition after his meeting on Sunday evening with the same APC governors in Abuja.

Multiple reports said it is Tinubu’s first response to Osinbajo’s entry into the 2023 presidential race.

But Adeyanju debunked the claim, saying the meeting had been on the diary of events.

He said: “The meeting had been planned before today (Monday). It is part of the ongoing consultation by Asiwaju.”

Governors who attended the meeting with Tinubu included Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna State), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos) Umaru Ganduje (Kano), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Others were Abudlrazaq Abdulrahman (Kwara State), Hope Uzondinma (Imo State), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa State) and Gboyega Oyetola (Osun State).

Tinubu, Osinbajo and Minister for Transportation Rotimi Amaechi are considered the leading contenders for the ticket.

Others such as Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Rochas Okorocha and serving governors of Kogi State (Yahaya Bello) and Ebonyi State (Dave Umahi) are also seeking the ruling party’s ticket.
