The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abia North, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, has expressed confidence of being reelected in 2023 after a four-year break, assuring that he is fully prepared for the seat.
The current senator for Abia North is Orji Uzor Kalu, who holds the position of Chief Whip of the Senate.
Ohuabunwa spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP newspaper in Umuahia, Abia State, after inaugurating his campaign council on Thursday, appealing for support from the constituents.
He said: “Since I left the Red Chamber in 2019, the district has almost become voiceless and without political direction. It has taken the backseat in the political equilibrium of the State.”
He decried the rising insecurity in the district and urged the people to unite against forces behind the woes of the people, adding that urgent action is needed to rescue the zone from its deplorable condition.
The Deputy National Legal Adviser of the party, Chief Okechukwu Osuoha, expressed displeasure over the state of affairs in district and urged the people to unite to change the narrative.
Nonetheless, Osuoha, expressed optimism that Ohuabunwa would return to the Senate in 2023, and charged members of the council to work assiduously to actualise his ambition.
Responding on behalf of other members of the council, Chief P. C. Mba said the district has learnt in a hard way, “the mistakes of 2019”, and has resolved to send its first eleven to Abuja.
