* Barely 24 hours after Tinubu
Ebonyi State governor, Engr. Dave Umahi, said on Tuesday that he has notified President Muhammadu Buhari his decision to contest the Presidential election come 2023.
Umahi stated this while briefing State House correspondents after meeting with President Buhari at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
Umahi’s declaration comes barely 24 hours after the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest for the office of president.
Umahi won the Ebonyi State governorship seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but defected to APC in November 2020.
Umahi said if elected President, he would replicate his progressive efforts in Ebonyi State at the national level.
The governor said he intends to bring a business-like spirit into governance.
According to him, President Buhari responded to his declaration by advising him to seek the support of the people.
The governor said he is undeterred by Tinubu’s presence in the race, noting that the contest is not about might.
